The Seated Soul: Finding Alignment After a Busy Weekend

This past weekend was a high-rise of activity: a prom send-off, an alumni dinner, serving at two worship services, a funeral visitation, and a fundraiser. My calendar was full, and my soul was beginning to groan under the weight. By the time Sunday evening arrived, my body issued a clear command: Sit down.
When I obeyed the command, I found myself at the table—literally—doing meal prep, tending to some light gardening, and simply connecting with my husband and daughter for her birthday. In that stillness, the "hurry" that was fragmenting my strength finally began to settle.
The Three Postures of the Seated Soul
This "sitting down" reminded me of the message I heard this past weekend from John 12:1-2: “There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.” In the Lazarus household, we see three distinct pillars of a seated soul:
Relationship: Being fully present with those across from us, as I was with my family.
The Witness: Lazarus’s greatest miracle wasn't just walking out of the tomb; it was the "normal miracle" of sitting at a table, breathing, and being.
Generosity: Like Mary’s offering, true generosity only flows when we aren't too hurried to notice the moment.
Aligning the Four Quadrants
When we refuse to sit, we lose our connection and alignment. We become a "Martha"—efficient but exhausted—without the peace of a "Lazarus." True alignment requires us to bring all four quadrants to the table:
Mind: Finding the cognitive clarity to stop "doing" and start "being".
Soul: Reclaiming the spiritual rhythm of Sabbath.
Heart: Opening the emotional space for relationship without the clutter of the next task.
Strength: Giving the body the rest it needs to sustain our daily work.
Take Your Seat
Alignment isn't a project you complete; it is a posture you inhabit. Whether you are prepping meals for the week or gardening in the quiet of the morning, you are practicing the "Normal Miracle" of a life reclaimed from hurry.
Your Move: This week, where is your body telling you to sit down? Don't ignore the command. The table is where the miracle of alignment begins.
